Crochet

I'm a crochet-er.  Is that a word?
I would crochet your hair if you let me.  Jaala has experienced that *sans permission though*.  This weekend, I've spent many hours finishing a pair of slippers and continuing on with a pair of mittens for two of my students.
It's been a bit of a race against time for the slippers, *I have a photo, but there is no point in sharing as I am a terrible photographer and the slippers are black, leaving very little to see. Use your imagination* as this particular student is being discharged to foster care very soon.  I wanted him to have them as he transitions to his new home.
The mittens, I have just the thumb and finger tips on the second mitten to finish, I plan to have them done by the end of today.  You know what that means?  I'm sitting on my ass, catching up on tv.  I may go switch some laundry loads but that is all you're getting out of me today, (I'm talking to you, housework!)

My poor husband has been waiting for his crocheted mittens, since before Christmas.  I got bogged down in creating for holiday gifts.  Then with requests from students for hand made things from me. *gosh I wish I had taken photos of the pink, pom pom hat I made for one of my students, it was SOO cute on her!*  After I presented it to her, she was stunned that I actually did what I said I would do (which was make her a hat when she asked for one) One of my co teachers commented that he hadn't ever seen a smile that looked real on her since she came to us.*
Now with mittens and slippers pushing him off, I made him a quick, pair on the machine, just to hold him over until I stop making other commitments ahead of him *he is so understanding when it comes to breaking my butt for my "kids"*.
Fabric, is Fabric, is fabric, right?  So I cut the legs and sleeves off an hideous track suit... used the cuffs as a ready made hem and voila, mittens for my boy!

He likes them, he wears them, they work for him!

Hon, I promise, your mittens are on the hook next!!
 Love you!

In other news, I have just tried a GREAT muffin recipe using Quinoa.
It's so good I have to share it will you, next time.  So go, get yourself a bag of Quinoa, and make sure you have some raisins or dried cranberries on hand, and we'll bake together!
