New Headband

My intention to blog each day this month was thwarted by not being well enough for a couple of days.

You may remember that, then 9 year old Leishabeth and her friend Sam both committed to shaving their heads in and gathering donations and pledges to give to the Canadian Cancer Society.  Together, they raised more than $3000!  Their team was called "Two little blondes with big hearts"! They are truly inspirational, as they both have*have had* a parent sick with cancer.
That occurred in June, and Leisha's hair has grown out considerably!  It is still to short to really do much too or with, but headbands look really cute and she won't wear the stiff ones from the store.  Out came the crochet hook and here are the results.

A really quick and simple pattern which I adapted from Toni Rexroat's "Fast Friends Bracelet"
Rather than using thread, I used a #1 weight mercerized cotton yarn, (left over from my mom's sweater)
and a size F hook.  I varied the pattern slightly to add two more pattern repeats and I put button holes on both ends, rather than just one.....in place of the button, I sewed on 4 inches of thin elastic and covered it in single crochet stitches to camouflage it.
She likes it.  That is good!

I have ear warmers to fit beneath helmets when toques won't work, but I have no metal bobbins to use to wind on my Kenmore machine and my Brother is still in the shop.  They will wait.
