I seem to have contracted a sinus/head/chest cold. I had just commented to Faron that we all had been soooo healthy since summer began.....I JINXED US!!
Tomorrow, Lei has her allergy tests. They're starting out with scratch tests to see what we're working with. Auntie Erin is coming in to watch Jaala for me, which is wonderful, other wise I'd have her little freckled nose poking in the way asking Lei if it hurts yet and "wondering" (out loud) what everything is for and what it means. She is precious!
Lei has been on her Prevacid for 2.5 weeks now, and it's amazing. I'm so thankful that it's working for her tummy aches!
She had an abdominal ultrasound to try and find out why her tummy was hurting constantly, for months, turns out, her stomach produces an excess of acid, which causes pain, damages the stomach lining, and eats her food to fast! This Prevacid reduces the stomach acid and the Dr is hoping her stomach lining will have a chance to heal while she's on the medication. In a few months he will preform another ultra sound to see if the lining is healing or not. Usually children this age don't develop ulcers, but left untreated over production of acid can cause problems. I'm just glad she's not laying on the couch crying after every meal now!
In other news, I received a letter from the Speech Pathologist regarding her assessment of Jaala.
Jaala's teacher recomended her for assesment back in May, being the responsible co-parent that I am, I TRIED to discuss this with Kyle, however, we all know Kyle and if he doesn't *know* something it doesn't require attention, nor does it exist. He refused to sign off on the assesment saying she didn't need it and telling me that I was not permitted to sign off on it without his consent. (BAHAHAHAHAHAHAH *snort*)
Needless to say, I gave him a beautiful bird and signed the papers...right in front of him. (oooh she's a rebel!)
Results are that Jaala has comprehension and articulation and receptive and expressive language development at well above her age group. However, she has what is called a dysfluency disorder. Which just means she stutters mildly over entire words and rarely over first sounds in a word.
Char and I have talked about her tendancy to stop and start and repeat words, often. We used to chuckle to eachother that we just wanted to finish her sentence for her !!
The condition is mild and they will keep track of Jaala's progress through the first semester of grade two and will intervene if it doesn't resolve itself. She's also schedualed to have her hearing evaluated in conjunction with this.
So, Kyle, aren't you glad I went ahead and made a decision in the best interest of our daughter? Seems like you don't know everything after all. Good thing I'm around to take care of the girls, I hate to think what would become of them if they were left to your devices.
