As a Canadian, I am watching the "Occupy" movements across the United States, with baited breath and hopeful expectation.
In my heart I am there cheering them on, in my mind I stand with them in the consensus that it is perfectly fine for a person to get rich in that capitalist society, but for them to in turn use their riches to buy control of the government, to purchase another individual's rights and freedoms and to create their comfortable living on the backs of other American's who are still waiting for that "trickle down" which is never coming!
I truly think that if more people in the US would wake up and see that they are holding on to blind faith that a trickle is coming their way if they just slave a little longer in these conditions....the "Occupy" movements would gain even more momentum and have even more impact than they currently are!
Unfortunately, too many people are still bought into the idea that they are ALMOST free that their ship is ALMOST there and so they look down their noses at the occupiers.
There is a photo circulating the internet, a cartoon drawing of a vet from one of the World Wars, dressed in his blues, sporting all his stripes and ribbons and medals, speaking to a disheveled hippie saying "when I was your age we occupied Europe".
Ok......
I'm not sure what this is trying to convey but it rankles me. What was the purpose of the "occupy Europe" movement *if we want to call it that*? To take back the freedoms being shat upon by persons believing they are entitled to eliminate the rights of other human beings.....same issue, different times.
I haven't yet found a way to be with the movement in the US in more than just spirit, but if I do, I'll let you know.
