Handmade Holidays

Some where along the way, I became more insane than ever before and decided to teach my children the value of spending time thinking, planning and creating the gifts we choose to give for Christmas.
It was an effort to be a good parent and instill the idea that there are bigger things in life than shopping, spending and wrapping Christmas gifts.

The insanity continues for the 3rd year in a row.

The girls are making and decorating items to give to their favourite people.  After the gifts have been given, I will share pictures of what we came up with.
(You know, because I want the gifts to be some semblance of a surprise on Christmas morning, and some of those on the aforementioned list, read this gazette.)

The process by which I determined what to produce for each individual is difficult to describe.  It’s about how I see them and what feels like it is perfect for them.
I find inspiration all over the inter web.  Gog bless the inter web!!!  There are many creative and crafty blogs, and websites which offer tutorials and patterns for making a lot of neat stuff.
I start in January, and keep a file of inspirations, photos and links to projects which intrigue me.
Eventually I settle on what to make for each person, and begin gathering the materials.
This is still an economical way to approach gift giving, because of how I gather my materials.  I have a list in my head of what material I have and what I need to find and set about searching Etsy, Ebay, Fabric store sales, as well as garage sales and thrift shops *Once I scored 6 yards of fabric at Value Village for $2!!!)  As gift time approaches (though never early enough to be stress free), I begin putting together the gifts.
That is where we are right now.  In the midst of creating, with love, out of love, for the people we love.
My big wish now...that there were more of me and more time to do this for more people who I love!!!
What are you doing for the holiday?
